It's launch time.. and we are teaming up with Haven House
haven house

Haven House is a children's hospice that has been conceived since the early 1990's and is located in Essex/East London.

Today, Haven house supports hundreds of families and look after children from birth to young adults, who have life threatening or life-limiting conditions.

We had the greatest pleasure to interview Lindy Hunt, Head of Community Engagement from Haven House to find out how the pandemic has affected the hospice and what we can do to help.

What is Haven House and what sets it apart from other organisations with similar missions?

Haven House Children's Hospice cares for seriously ill babies and children by creating a loving and warm environment for them and their families while they go through the toughest of times. Haven House is a life line for these families, supporting them through their child’s illness. The hospice is here for the whole family including mums, dads, brothers, sisters and grandparents. Haven House provides round the clock care at the hospice, surrounded in beautiful grounds and woodland, in Woodford Green and through outreach services in the home and local community The hospice provides day care, over-night stays, end of life care, bereavement support, as well as life enriching activities such as sensory play, music therapy and physiotherapy.

Haven House is there from the time a devastating diagnosis is made, to help families have choice, quality of life and to make the most of the precious time they have together.

How has the pandemic impacted Haven House?

Haven House remains on the frontline in providing care for some of the most vulnerable children in our local community. COVID-19 has thrown us into unprecedented times. We still remain uncertain of what the future holds. We urgently need the support of our community so we can cope with the current crisis and the difficult times that will follow. Our Care services are needed right now more than ever. We have continued to ensure we are there for local sick children and their families, whilst also working hand in hand with the NHS to endeavour to bring children without COVID-19 out of hospital, freeing up hospital beds for emergency cases.

What is the biggest challenge that the hospice is now facing due to the pandemic?

We face a very uncertain future financially. All our fundraising events were cancelled in 2020 but we still need to raise £4.4 million annually to keep our doors open.

How will you use the funds raised by Snugs Baby?

We rely on our local community for 80% of our income and that need remains and will continue.  Throughout North East London and beyond, we have been offering end of life care, step down and emergency respite care, as well as a range of support for the family and in the home. This includes delivering music therapy where we can to children online and via video conferencing. This funding will ensure that we can continue these vital services.

What else can we, as businesses or individuals do to help support the cause?

Thank you for holding Haven House in your hearts. The love and help expressed by the community around us during such an extraordinary time, has been nothing short of incredible. Knowing our supporters are behind us every step of the way is reassuring and it means so much to know that we're in this together. We have a whole range of fundraising activities on our website, from virtual challenges to Skydives, raffles and bake sales. Please take a look and get involved with your friends and family:
